weeikmor Oct.13, 2008

Hey guys haven't blogged in a while guess blogging isn't my forte. This week we watched a video clip from the 2004 election from CNN. This led to a discussion and picked we picked different topics for each group. My group had to do newspaper. The Detroit News supported John McCain are more conservative on the left. The Detroit Free Press supported Baracka Obama and are more liberal and on the right side. I also looked at the Southend and the are more neutral even spoke about libertarians. You all might not have understood my presentation becausec I was a little sick. This assignment really woke me up I was aware racism was still alive an kicking but I though more people were opened minded

Host

Hello everyone. Host By David Foster Wallace is an interesting read. Its about a talk radio show host who thinks he is opened minded and not a racist but he is he is just that. A racists. It was kinda of hard getting into this read because of all the boxes. I have never read anything like that so I didn't quit know how to read the article. At first I would ignore the boxes but they were not that easy to ignore and the boxes most of the time you had to read to even understand what was going on. After reading the whole story I understood why the boxes were used and they made they story interesting. I enjoyed this read I am not the type of person that would read a book on a rainy day but when they are interesting you cant help but enjoy.
I think its very weird how we were told to read this article by Wallace then within that week I guess he ends up committing suicide. You never know the pain others are going through. Live life to the fullest!

Bartelby

I'm new to this so I don't really know the process. But we were asked if Bartelby were in today's society how would he be. I don't think he would make it because they put up with a lot back then. If he was right here in Detroit he would not be able to come to work drunk and only being productive half of the day. The way the economy is now compared to back then it might of been a little easier but everyone is struggling and would not pay someone for work they have not completed they would be replaced in a heart beat. Bartelby has let the office become his life so much so that he looks like a fixture or part of the building. The office seems grungy and gloomy just as Bartelby appears to be. I don't think Bartelby knows what his next move will be he is content in his office in which seems to be his home as well. In the reading he ends up getting fired finally and ends up dying. He had no purpose so he thought without this office it was like he couldn't survive.
